I was never a fan of Where the Wild Things Are. However, one of my earliest childhood memories is trying to memorize Chicken Soup with Rice for Kindergarten when we were learning our months of the year. I was damn proud of myself too.
I was born in 1985 and that book came out in 1962. Maurice Sendak’s books will likely live on for a very, very long time. I hope he knew what a huge positive part he played in the childhood of so many generations.
